🗺️ Trekking Itinerary
Day 01: Addis Ababa – Assela – Bale Goba
Depart Addis Ababa early and drive through Assela toward the Bale region. Enjoy changing landscapes as you ascend into the highlands.
Overnight: Camping or lodge in Bale Goba
Day 02: Sanetti Plateau Trek & Tullu Dimtu Area
Begin trekking across the Sanetti Plateau, passing alpine moorlands and glacial valleys. Trek toward the Tullu Dimtu area, with picnic lunch en route and wildlife spotting opportunities.
Overnight: Bale Goba (camp or lodge)
Day 03: Sof Omar Caves & Wabe Shebelle Gorge
Drive to the remarkable Sof Omar Caves, one of Africa’s largest limestone cave systems. Continue to scenic viewpoints overlooking the Wabe Shebelle Gorge before returning to camp.
Overnight: Bale Goba
Day 04: Bale Mountains – Awassa
Descend from the highlands with scenic views of mountains and valleys. Arrive in Awassa, located on the shores of Lake Awassa.
Overnight: Hotel in Awassa
Day 05: Awassa Birdwatching & Cultural Walk
Morning birdwatching around Lake Awassa, including the famous fish market area where pelicans and other endemic birds gather. Afternoon at leisure.
Overnight: Hotel in Awassa
Day 06: Abijatta–Shalla National Park – Ziway – Addis Ababa
Visit Abijatta–Shalla Lakes National Park, one of Ethiopia’s most important bird sanctuaries. Lunch in Ziway, then drive back to Addis Ababa.
